Every year about 400,000 newborn babies are infected with HIV through perinatal tranmission from their own mothers. If an HIV-positive woman is treated before childbirth, the risk of passing on the infection falls to 2 %. The international community resolved to make access to prevention, treatment, care and support available to everyone by the end of 2010. There is still a lot to be done to reach that goal!
